Background:
Astrovirus is an RNA virus transmitted by the fecal-oral route either directly or by ingestion of contaminated food. It causes gastroenteritis and diarrhea, mostly in children under the age of 2.Detection is by RT-PCR or antigen detection by ELISA using stool samples.
