General Information
Background:
Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2) are highly contagious infections that are lifelong and cause recurrent symptoms of painful blisters or open sores. HSV-1 is mainly transmitted by oral-to-oral contact and HSV-2 is a sexually transmitted infection that causes genital herpes.
