General Information
Background:
Transferrin (TSF) is a secreted protein that belongs to the transferrin family and is expressed by the liver and secreted into the plasma. TF has a molecular weight of about 80 kDa and contains two specific high-affinity Fe3 + binding sites.TSFs are iron-binding glycoproteins present in plasma that regulate free iron levels in biological fluids, and their main role is to transport iron from the duodenum and leukocyte macrophages to other tissues.TSF is implicated in the innate immune system. In the inflammatory state, its levels will decrease.We often have an increased plasma TSF levels in patients with iron deficiency anemia.While plasma TSF levels are usually reduced in patients with iron overload and protein dystrophy. It has been found that TF and its receptors reduce Tumour cells when TSF receptors attract antibodies.TF is an acute phase protein, and therefore its levels are decreased in inflammation, Malignant tumor, and certain diseases.
