Introduction

Since the initial discovery of histone acetyltransferases, numerous reports have established that histone acetyltransferases regulate transcription by acetylating histones.  Protein lysine acetylation has emerged as a key posttranslational modification in cellular regulation, in particular through the modification of histones and nuclear transcription regulators. Recent studies have found the effects of histone acetylation on gene expression regulation during development and the roles of histone hypoacetylation in the maintenance of centromeric structure, X-inactivation and genomic imprinting.Besides, functions of non-histone proteins can also be regulated by acetylation. Together, these data highlight the importance of acetylation of histones and non-histone proteins in a variety of chromosomal functions. Acetylation of proteins is one of the most commonly important post-translational modifications, which is involved in many cellular activity, and closely related to many biological activities such as  signal transduction, cell cycle, growth and development, and cancer mechanism, et al.
